Probiotics

One of the best investments you can make in your overall health is to buy probiotics and to take them faithfully. What are some good ways to determine if it would be a good idea for you to take probiotic supplents? Well, if you are experiencing certain symptoms, such as digestive problems (bad breath, constipation, cramps, gas, bloating or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, just to name a few), you might be in need of some probiotics.

Also, if you experience any of the symptoms of candida or yeast infections, probiotics might be helpful for you. Some people who experience regular migraines report getting relief from regular probiotic supplementation. Probiotics also can be beneficial for the treatment of premenstrual cramping and other PMS problems.

Antibiotics and Probiotics

Whenever you are prescribed antibiotics, which can disturb your internal floral balance (the makeup of your internal bacteria), it is wise to supplement with probiotics to counteract the negative effects of the antiobiotics. (Sometimes it is necessary to take antibiotics, but doctors are getting much more judicious about prescribing them because when they are over prescribed they can do more harm than good.) Antibiotics tend to kill both the “good “ and “bad” bacteria in your system, and taking probiotics can help the good bacteria grow back more quickly.

There are different types of probiotics you can take, including some that require refrigeration (to keep the cultures alive and active). You can buy them in powder form, or liquid form or capsule form. Take a particular brand or type or probotics precisely as directed and on a daily basis for a full week or two. After that period of time you should be able to determine if this is the right brand/type of probiotics for you because you should be experiencing at least a partial relief of your symptoms, whether you are taking the probiotics for digestive issues or PMS or headaches or anything else.

Consult Your Doctor about Probiotics

Of course, you will want to consult your own doctor before starting any kind of supplementation program (and this includes supplementing with probiotics) because you want to make sure any supplement that you take on a regular basis is a good fit for you, given the overall current state of your health. Sometimes if you are experiencing severe PMS (or digestive issues or migraines or any of the other health problems mentioned previously), you may be dealing with an underlying medical condition that requires additional treatment.

In addition to consulting your doctor (and perhaps a nutritionist as well), you will also want to pay close attention to everything you are eating and the amount of exercise you are getting (as well as how much water you are consuming daily and how much sleep you are getting nightly) because each of these factors plays a huge role in your overall health, and just supplementing with probiotics (or any other nutritional supplements) is not enough to keep you healthy in and of itself.
