Online Business Earnings
62Online Business and Content Creation
When you enter the world of online business by setting up and creating content for your own websites and blogs and/or by writing for ad revenue sharing websites such as HubPages, you will quickly find that your earnings can ebb and flow rather substantially from day to day. One way to cope with these fluctuations is just not to look at them very often. For instance, if you have a Google Adsense Account, try your hardest not to look at it every day. (Some people actually check their earnings several times per day, which is not wise.)
There are several reasons to avoid this compulsive checking behavior when it comes to keeping track of your various sources of online income. For starters, you will be wasting a lot of time on checking your earning stats. Think of all the other, more productive ways that you could be spending that precious time instead! You could be doing your research or writing drafts of articles or working on backlinking and social bookmarking.
Don't Get Sucked In To Checking Stats Too Often
Not only is it a waste of time to be checking earning statistics all the time, it is also bad for your mental and emotional health, because it can put you on a terrible emotional roller coaster ride. For example, if you check your stats one day and find that you are having a day when you are not earning very much at all, finding this out can put you down in the dumps for the entire day. When you are feeling sad, you are far less likely to be productive in terms of creating more original content for articles and/or blog posts.
On a similar note, let’s say you check your stats in the morning and find that your day is off to a great start in terms of earnings, but then you check again later and find that your earnings are remaining stagnant. This is another surefire way to darken your mood, making it difficult for you to continue writing that day.
Google Adsense
If you feel tempted to check your earnings statistics on Google Adsense and elsewhere once a day or multiple times a day, take measure to prevent yourself from doing so. Remind yourself that there are far better (and more productive) ways to be spending your precious time. And also remind yourself of the dreaded emotional roller coaster ride that can ensue if you keep checking compulsively.
Try to distract yourself. Get offline for a while. Take a walk or call a friend or spend time with your family. In other words, do anything to “get a change of scenery” so that you can regain your sense of perspective and stop obsessing about online earnings. Far too many people get caught up in this perpetual checking game to the detriment of both their emotional health and their online businesses.
Some people even stop working online altogether because they find that they get too dejected from seeing too many low earning days. And therein lies the ultimate danger of checking online earnings obsessively: the possibility that you will drive yourself completely off the deep end to the point where you no longer derive any joy from your online writing business.
