Online Writing Tips

Working through Writer’s Block

Most online writers (and offline writers) experience periods when they feel blocked. If you are going through a writing “dry spell,” there are a few different ways to break out of it. For instance, you can face that dreaded blank screen head on and just start writing about anything at all, even if what you are writing about to break out of your block has nothing to do with the topic you had hoped to write about. Sometimes just the act of writing something can shake you out of your dry spell and enable you to get back to writing what you want to write. As the famous Nike slogan says, “Just Do It.”

Talk to other writers and brainstorm about what works to break free from writer's block. If you are part of a writing community such as a writers' workshop, don't hesitate to seek specific tips from your fellow writers.

No Duplicate Content

When you become an Internet Marketer or online writer, it can sometimes be tempting to place the same articles on different websites. While some people think this is no big deal, it can be a problem in some circumstances, so why take the risk at all? How can you avoid placing duplicate content on more than one website? Well, the surest way to avoid this problem of duplicate content is to start every article that you write on a completely blank screen. This way you will not even be tempted to “borrow” any language at all from your other articles

What you cannot always avoid is unscrupulous people stealing your content and placing it on their websites. This can happen from time to time. If you discover that someone has taken your original content and posted it on their own blogs or websites, you can report the transgression to Google (and/or to any other relevant parties). You can also write a cease and desist letter to the blog owner.

Be Prolific and Persistent

When you get involved with online writing, one of the most useful things that you can do for yourself and for your new online business is to write as much as you possibly can. The more prolific you are, the more results you will see, both in terms of traffic and earnings. If there are some days when you cannot add any new content to your article libraries at various websites (like HubPages) or to your own blogs and websites, try to make up for this lost time on the days when you can write. (At the same time, be sure to take frequent breaks to refresh yourself and prevent burnout.)

Don’t give up on your online writing dreams too quickly. It takes quite a bit of time and effort to make a go of an online writing business, but just because something is challenging does not mean that you should not attempt it. Stick with it, even if your level of productivity ebbs and flows.

At the same time, however, don’t get too obsessed. That is, don’t allow your online writing business or Internet Marketing efforts to interfere with the rest of your life. Keep your sense of humor and a healthy sense of perspective in terms of your work/life balance. Ultimately, if you follow these online writing tips and others, you will find that all your hard work will pay off in the end.
