Online Writing and Time Management

Starting an Online Writing Career

When you are embarking upon your online writing career, it can be tricky working out the logistics of your time management. If you work other jobs and/or if you are also a parent, there may be times when you feel like you have placed your online writing career on hold or on the back burner.

Setting a regular schedule for your online writing can really increase your productivity. For instance, if your kids are at school between the hours of 9:00 and 3:00, you might want to make those hours your work hours. Working from home requires a lot of discipline. There are so many actual distractions (and potential distractions). That’s why it can be helpful to work when the kids are out of the house.

Dealing with Distractions

Of course, there will be days when you have doctor’s appointments or other obligations during those hours preventing you from getting your online writing work done in that time slot. On days when you use your kids’ school hours to do these other tasks, you might want to do your online writing early in the morning before everyone gets up or late at night after everyone has gone to bed.

Regarding time management, there may be days when you are super productive with your online writing and there may be other days when you hardly get anything done at all. Don’t be too hard on yourself about this. It’s simply the nature of work at home jobs in many ways. Your schedule will not always permit you to get as much writing done as you would like.

Carving Out Time To Write

However, if you find ways to devote at least two hours to your online writing career each day, you will find that you can make some significant progress in your blog writing and in the writing that you do for passive income sites such as HubPages. (On days when you can work on your online writing for more than two hours, go for it! This will compensate for the days when life intervenes and you find that you cannot work at all.)

The best part about creating an online writing schedule and really sticking with it is that you eventually reach a point when you feel strange deviating from that schedule. In other words, when you work on time management, your writing routine will become such a big and important part of your life and your daily routine that to go without your writing time will start to feel pretty odd indeed.

The more online content you can create the better. Every monetized blog post and every online article that you publish on monetized sites will help you achieve your goal of earning passive income online. Think in terms of sheer volume. Of course, quality counts, too. But quantity is just as important in the world of online writing.

In addition to working on time management with your online writing, marketing your work also needs to be a big part of your game plan if you are serious about taking your online writing career to the next level and earning more and more money for your efforts. That is, you need to spread the word about what you write by social bookmarking it, Tweeting about it, adding it to your Facebook page, and so on and so forth.
